Starting the Tackle Shop Part 4 – Construction Time
Part 4 – Construction Time
Follow along in this entry titled “Starting the Tackle Shop Part 4 – Construction Time”.
I STILL Needed Inventory!
After COUNTLESS HOURS of weeding through clickbait (pun intended) and submissions to Distributors until the wee hours in the morning, I FINALLY found 2 that believed in my idea and were willing to take a chance on the fact that I was not out to undermine other retailers in my area and accept me as a customer.
I had pleaded my case with so many others, it was such a huge weight off of my shoulders to finally be able to start putting the shopping list together. I will circle back to this in a later entry.
This is about the construction, so let’s do it!
Planning Phase
From the beginning I wanted to stand out. I wanted to show that I was going to offer tackle at competative pricing while representing the brands that I carried with the clout that they deserved. After all, there are faces behind all of these and to just throw them on a dirty plywood wall does not do justice to the amount of hard work that went into their creation.
I knew that the first thing that had to go was the flooring. This would need to look and feel like you entered a retail shop, not a box that you pull your quads with for a weekend get away, so I decided on doing a nice wood pattern laminate tongue and groove.
I did my measureing and ordered enough to get the job done from Home Depot.
I went with a grey color as it was going to be easy to clean and is a nice neutral color that does not make your eyes go straight to the floor. It also makes the space look a lot bigger compared to the black floor it came with.
I also needed to pick up slat wall so I can display the tackle on the walls in an organized fashion. While I could have opted for peg board and it would have been much less expensive, I just think it looks cheap.
So after doing my reseach I decided to go with Pro-Slat. It is a composite material, so I would not need to worry about warping due to heat, cold and moisture like I would with the actual retail slat board. It was also less expensive than the retail version and weighs a significant amount less.

Until then.. Tight Lines!
